Long-distance buses connect Beijing to nearby cities and attractions. Direct buses to Mutianyu Great Wall depart from Dongzhimen Transport Hub (90 minutes, 12 RMB). Buses to Chengde (Imperial Summer Resort) take 4 hours. Buses to nearby Tianjin depart every 30 minutes from Zhaogongkou Long Distance Bus Station. For the Great Wall at Badaling, take the S2 train from Huangtudian Station instead of a bus for a more comfortable journey.

Beijing's subway is the most efficient way to navigate the city, with 24+ lines covering all major attractions. Fares range from 3-10 RMB. The subway operates 5am-11pm. Taxis start at 13 RMB for the first 3km. Ride-hailing via Didi (China's Uber) is widely available with English app support. For hutong exploration, renting a bicycle or taking a pedicab (negotiate price first) is ideal. The Beijing City Pass transport card offers discounted subway and bus fares and can be purchased at any subway station.
