History & Background

Daocheng Yading Nature Reserve, at 4,000-6,000m elevation, is one of China's most pristine alpine areas. The reserve features three sacred snow peaks (Chenrezig, Jambeyang, and Chanadorje), glacial lakes, and meadows. Tibetan Buddhists consider the peaks sacred, and pilgrims have circumambulated them for centuries. The area was popularized by explorer Joseph Rock in the 1920s.
