Founded in 1952 and relocated to its current People's Square location in 1996, the Shanghai Museum houses over 120,000 artifacts. The building's design represents ancient Chinese cosmology: a round dome above a square base. It is one of China's four great museums, renowned for its bronze, ceramic, calligraphy, and jade collections.
